Guided Imagery
is a relaxation process that provides easy access to your unconscious
mind. Guided Imagery can help reduce pain and anxiety and is an
excellent tool for stress relief. Research has shown that the same
parts of the brain become active when people imagine something or
actually experience it. The more senses you use, the more "real"
your imagery seems to the brain. Scientists believe that these changes
in brain activity may influence the autonomic nervous system which
controls important bodily processes. In fact, imagery has been shown
to affect heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, digestion, blood
levels of stress hormones and immune function.
